January 5 - February 22, 2020
Opening Reception:
Sunday, January 5, 2-5 pm
In his Typed Series, veteran Los Angeles artist Paul Tzanetopoulos deploys an array of methods and ingredients rarely found in the same body of work: the tradition of concrete poetry, the legacy of the readymade (vintage manual typewriters), abstract design (tartan plaids) and, perhaps most notably, an exacting, key-stroke by key-stroke, commitment to the act of mimetic representation. Originally executed between the years 1988 and 1991, the meaning of these artworks changes--continuously, if subtly--as the once-modern, once-ubiquitous communication technology on which they rely recedes ever-further into the past.
